I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”

I know a lot of people have had problems with their dishwasher detergent with the law changes a while back and I was one of them too. I made my own for a while but it really started scaling up my dishes even when using water softener and rinse aids so I went back to commercial brands. I have been using one particular brand for a long time now but lately I have had issues with left on bits of stuff on dishes and my dishwasher being dirty and dingy looking. The gel pacs I have been using were also starting not to dissolve for some reason although I am not sure why. So when I had the chance to work with Mom Central for Cascade I jumped at it. I have been wanting to try the new Cascade Platinum packs in the dishwasher anyway! I really wanted to give them a good test too so I let a glass baking dish sit for 2 days after cooking meat in it for supper. I know. Gross right?? But I really wanted to see if they worked! And they did! No kidding. It killed me not to at least rinse this nastiness off but I didn't and I couldn't be more pleased with how Cascade Platinum performed for me.

I don't have a fancy, schmancy, newfangled dishwasher either. Mine is a hand me down but it does a great job and I am thankful for it. So this was done in a basic machine and the results were awesome. Check it out!

EEWWWWW!

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2xDUg8pEXOg/UbFg5EUsMVI/AAAAAAAAElU/PbzdK7fqmGU/s1600/cascade+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I don't know if you have seen the poem When You Thought I Wasn't Looking or not but I took that and switched it up to make it personal for Blaze and his teacher. Then I used a cheap frame, scrapbook paper and stickers, and cork letters to make a plaque for her. I am posting the poem and a photo of the plaque. She sent me a letter telling me how much she loved it and how much it meant to her. So sweet.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I saw it somewhere but I cannot remember if it was Pinterest, Facebook, or a blog or something. So I am going to post it here so I won't lose it first of all, but also so you can try it if you want to! It was super easy and so worth trying. We will be having it again I am for sure.

Italian Spinach Tortellini
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I have no idea how it happened so quickly. But it did, and he did so well. I am so proud of him and how far he has come since school started. He couldn't say a full sentence clearly when school started and now he never stops talking! He has also been below grade level all year until this last progress report. At his end of the year IEP meeting everyone was in agreement that he will be promoted to 1st grade (ON grade level for math and reading!) and that he has made amazing progress and reached all of his goals.

I have his teacher to thank mostly for this. Or a few of them really lol. But his actual class teacher is wonderful. I knew she was before he even went because she was my kindergarten teacher too! And Chris'! And several of our nephew's and niece's too! She has made a world of difference in Blaze's life and I am so thankful he had such an awesome start to his school career. SO for her end of the year gift I made her the apple cozy you see in the pic above and will put an apple in there. I also changed up the When You Thought I Wasn't Looking poem and made it personal from Blaze to her. Let me know what you think about it. I am going to type it out on pretty paper and frame it for her.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you put faces on the chart for me,
and I finally understood what it meant.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
You displayed my art,
and it made me want to make more.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you kept my routines the same for me,
and I knew school was safe and fun.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you explained things to me more simply,
and I knew that I could learn too.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you smiled and hugged me, but not too tight,
and I knew you cared for me.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you cared,
and I wanted to do my best for you.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
you made kindergarten amazing for me,
and I knew that I was smart.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I looked,
and I want to thank you for all the little things you did,
when you thought I wasn't looking.

Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-73028404018186966222013-03-31T01:21:00.002-04:002013-03-31T01:21:36.210-04:00Happy Easter!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; My gallbladder sucks apparently. I finally got my surgery approved and I will be happy to be done with it. I am nervous about having surgery though. He said because I am obese (blech) that the chances of having to open me up are higher. I am hoping that doesn't happen though. Poor Blaze is having a hard time understanding the whole thing though. I don't hide things from him and I try to explain them as clearly as possible but still keep it on his level. He just doesn't like that they are going to cut me lol.

We have had so much going on this year with it being Blaze's first year of school and him having all of the evaluations done. He has been diagnosed as Asperger's and ADHD. At separate times of course. I can't believe the difference in him though since the beginning of this school year. It really blows my mind that my son who didn't even recognize that letters had sounds is now trying to sound out everything he sees and is reading a lot. His social skills have came a long way too and he doesn't have to wear his earmuffs nearly as often as he did. He is really just a good kid. I love him so much. He is still below grade level though so he may have 2 years of kindergarten. That was my suggestion at his first IEP meeting though. You know, he is a very young kindergartner anyway since he turned 5 the day school started. So he wouldn't be behind any other kids anyway. His doc says he doesn't want him held back often and if we are going to do it to do it now because Blaze isn't going to be small and he will start looking out of place as he gets older and it will make him more likely to get made fun of. I don't think that will be a problem though. I have been thinking lately that he may not need to be held back though. I want him to have a good educational foundation but I don't want him to get bored by having to do kindergarten all over again either. We shall see what happens I guess.

It is tball season again and Blaze wanted to play. His team is the Valley Point Timberwolves and he is so excited about playing. I think he gets it a little more this year and is more focused too. I can't wait to watch him play. He is of course, the biggest on his team. Although he is not the oldest haha. My boy is going to be so big.

Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-56811420797358588492013-03-19T00:05:00.002-04:002013-03-19T00:05:27.316-04:00Bloglovin Claim

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/3808853/?claim=bpc8kapzty7">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a> He is the one who has Neurofibromatosis Type1. He is my red headed sweetie nephew. Truly I love this kid so much it hurts. Today it hurts even more though. The results from his latest MRIs were not good this time sadly. He has a large lesion wrapped around his cervical spine. The most he has had before, and still has too, is 3 nodules on his neck but these don't affect anything really. He has been having head, neck and leg pain for a while now though. And now I am sure we know why. We know he has it. But I can say that this has truly made it real for all of our family. It can be easy to forget when you look at him and he isn't disfigured or sick but it reared up today and showed us that it is still there. That any nerve ending in his body, anywhere, can become a tumor. This sucks. A neurosurgeon is being called in and we won't know more really till then. Please keep him in your prayers along with his whole family. This is a big hurt for all of us. I am reminded through all this that no matter the issues Blaze has, we are lucky. His issues won't take him from us. This will eventually take our sweet Hunter and that isn't fair. I know I have and so did a little boy named Nicky. He was 13 years old when he asked his Dad on Halloween why candy had to be so unhealthy. His Dad started doing some research and found that most candies were filled with gmo's, hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and flavors. This stuff didn't make the candy better! It didn't even make it taste better! It only made it last longer. How sad is that? So Nicky, his Dad, and his brothers set out to UNJUNK candy! I can attest to the fact that they did.
Some of you know my best friend Kathryn got married yesterday. Her shower was last week and I decided to combine the two so more people could try this awesome candy. It was a huge hit and everyone was thrilled to get full size packages of all the types of Unreal candy. The kids loved it just as much as the adults did.

UNREAL provides many of the great flavor combinations we love in our treats, but without the corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, gmo's, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives AND with 40% LESS sugar per serving on average! The key ingredients are responsibly sourced. The candy is available at the stores we usually shop at anyway and the cost is less!

The majority favorite at the shower was the chocolate caramel nougat but a close second was the chocolate candy peanuts for sure. I think they are much better than the main brand and look at the difference how the colors are attained.

Now do you care how bright the color is? I don't. I would much rather a more natural color that isn't man made.

"I am in love with the peanut butter cups!!!

"These are so much better than m&m's Aunt Shana!"

"You can taste a HUGE difference!"

"Now THIS is candy I can eat!"

Now, I think these are some pretty encouraging comments. Especially on candy which is generally not good for you. You can get loads of information about each of the candies at GET UNREAL also. Find them on Facebook HERE and Twitter HERE. Contact them to ask questions, look around, or tell them what you think about Unreal Candy! Unjunk your Halloween this year and give your kids something you don't have to freak out about!

I received free products and compensation in exchange for hosting a party and reviewing the product honestly.
Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-227095593195749162012-09-21T16:25:00.001-04:002012-09-21T16:25:50.778-04:00Autism Really??
Well, we have a lot going on here. Finally getting some answers on Blaze. We had a conference and evaluation at the school with his teacher, the child psychologist, the speech/language pathologist, and the occupational therapist. There will be lots more testing and stuff to come but the diagnosis is Autism. I have said and known for a long time that his communication skills weren't good but I didn't realize how not good until I got more info about what he is doing in school and the issues he is having. Our school has a 4 tier system for levels of education needs. 1 is regular education, 2 is a little help in the normal class, 3 is regular help in class with interventions and outside of the class help in special ed or autism resource class etc, 4 is all special ed. Blaze is at tier 3. That floored me. They will be keeping him in his regular class as much as possible because he needs the social skills and because he loves it and the teacher is awesome but he will be getting time every day in the autism resource class and speech and language class. I sent him to school without explaining too much to his teachers on purpose. I wanted to know I wasn't crazy and I know they are objective and well trained to spot issues. I have been researching a lot lately and had come up with sensory processing disorder but I know in my heart it is because I just didn't want it to be autism. I knew the signs and I knew the things he was doing and new things he is doing now are classic signs but I tried to play it off and think I was overreacting. But I wasn't. I have been trying to get this stuff going for 3 years with his doc and I let them tell me it was ok, he is just a boy, boys are slower than girls, boys are just rough, blah blah blah, but i know deep down that it wasn't right. I was looking back through his baby book and I could see when things happened and when he lost his words and I let them tell me it was because his ears. But the things he did are classic. He never wanted to be held as a baby, you couldn't put him in a swing or bouncer or crib. You could hold him but facing out, the food issues, not knowing his strength, the speech and other stuff. I can see it clearly now that I have heard the word. I am ok with it. If his charts say autism to get what he needs to learn how he needs to learn I am all for it. I hate it. I know nobody wants anything to be wrong with their child and I surely don't. But I do know that I did everything to make sure if it happened it wouldn't be my fault. I didn't get him vaccinated till he was 4 which gave him time to be big and healthy and able to take it more and autism is usually being recognized at 18 months which is about the time the mmr is given so I didn't want any chance of me causing it if it happened. The school is amazing and there will be more evaluations and testing and stuff coming up but they are all about him and what he needs as an individual and want the best for him as I do. Please just keep us in your prayers and any info you have will be greatly appreciated. I just want him to be ok and to have a normal life. I want to be able to have a conversation with him. I want him to be everything he wants to be. I want him to live up to the potential he has. He is so smart and cute and loving and sweet. I just want the best for him.
Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-49419737958425381612012-09-16T22:52:00.000-04:002012-09-16T22:52:01.156-04:00Blaze Update

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I mean, really loving it. I am beyond thrilled that he does too! As far as how I thought he would do and the worries I had about him going I think some are founded and some haven't been as bad as I thought. I kind of sent him in with the teachers having blinders on. I gave them only the most pertinent information on how he is and what he understands so they could make their own judgements about his maturity and what he needs. It seems that I am not crazy and that he definitely has issues but he is behaving better (most days) than I thought he would. School started on August 9th and I received a letter that Blaze would be getting extra help around the 3rd week of school. I am good with that because he needs it. Last week I got a letter from the Tier III Student Support Team to set up a conference so we can decide what testing, evaluations, interventions, etc that Blaze needs. In a way I am sad because nobody wants their kid to have a hard time or need extra help. But in a way I am happy because maybe someone will finally listen and get things rolling for him so we can deal with the issues and get him learning the best way he can. Sensory Processing Disorder is the real possibility here and it is overwhelming to say the least. It is kind of hard to understand and even harder to explain to people who don't get it. I am lucky though because Blaze isn't nearly as severe as some are. Most of his deals with speech, auditory, and physical stimulation problems. He doesn't realize his strength and has always been this way. Of course we all know the whole language thing has been a problem for a long time. I do feel that the steps are finally getting the ball rolling now and he will be helped. I am good. He is good. It will all get better. So anyway, the meeting will be Thursday at 2:30 and I will know more then I suppose. Wish us luck.
Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-26715936650018652662012-09-10T07:45:00.000-04:002012-09-10T07:48:14.608-04:00Cheesy Doritos Chicken Casserole

<a href="http://www.blazeinonlifeonawannabefarm.com/2012/09/cheesy-doritos-chicken-casserole.html" style="clear: left; Since joining Pinterest I have seen a million ways to use vinegar and I always wonder how something so simple can do so much. Well, I still don't really know how but I do know it works. First we used it as weed killer and although it took 2 applications it totally worked. * Do not use if you have plants you want to live. It is nonselective and will kill them all.* I then used it as a rinse agent in the dishwasher. Although that works, I don't like the smell on my dishes. I have a really hard time cleaning our tub and shower (we have one of each) because of all of fluids, greases, and everything else Chris gets on him when he works. This stuff is so hard to get off and I hate doing it. I can go through 2 magic erasers at one cleaning and I thought that was great. Boy was I wrong!

I mixed up one cup of white vinegar and one cup of Dawn in a spray bottle and shook it up. Then I sprayed the tub in one bathroom and the shower in the other and let that sit for an hour. I took a wet sponge and with the first swipe the gunk came right off. I actually squealed because I was so excited. I cleaned my big tub in like 5 minutes with no scrubbing, elbow grease, sweating, or hard breathing lol. Well, besides my asthma bothering me, but that is just me.

I highly recommend you try this if you want to use the best cleaner ever. We are getting 5 a day out of 6 hens and that adds up pretty quickly. Especially since we don't use many. I saw a pin on Pinterest that said you can bake them in the oven and freeze them to use later so I thought I would try that today. They turned out so yummy too. We ate some for breakfast and I flash froze the others to keep in the freezer. Super easy and something to do when there is a big egg sale or if you have your own hens like we do. I know there will be a much shorter supply of eggs this winter so this will be a nice way to not buy them at the store very often and to still have the much better quality of our fresh eggs.

How to Bake Eggs To Freeze

1)Preheat oven to 350 and grease muffin tins with butter. Make sure to cover each cup well so they won't stick.
2)Crack your eggs into the cups like so.

3)Sprinkle eggs with salt and pepper. You can also add crumbled cooked sausage, bacon, ham or any other fixings you like. I have seen spinach too. I popped the yolks on ours but you don't have to.
4)Pop the pans in the oven for 20 minutes and then you pull them out and they look like this. Well, unless you added other stuff or didn't pop the yolks lol.

5)I used a butter knife to run around the edge of each egg and popped them out with a fork, put them on a cookie sheet and stick in the freezer for an hour or two then put them in freezer bags and there you go. They will be ready to pop in the microwave for a quick but healthy breakfast when you don't have more time.

I am not sure how long they will take in the microwave as I haven't done that part yet but I would think not too awful long. Just test it out to see and when we use them that way the first time I will update on that. Seriously, these taste so good. Don't be afraid to try it!!
Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-37453268697090408162012-08-24T07:59:00.000-04:002012-08-24T08:06:01.021-04:00Shepherd's Pie My Way

One of my favorite meals has always been Shepherd's Pie. My Mom made it all the time when I was growing up and now I do too. Now, Blaze won't eat it but that isn't anything new lol. It says comfort and home to me. So I thought I would share my recipe for it here with you.

Shepherd's Pie

1 lb hamburger
2 small cans cream of mushroom soup
veggies if you want them, I used peas and corn this time.
salt, pepper, a little garlic
onion ( I used dried minced because I like the flavor)
1 cup water
1/4 cup sour cream
2 TBSP butter
1 bag steam and mash russet potatoes (2 if you want a thick layer) or you can use your own mashed potatoes but I got these for a good price.
1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (I used colby jack)

1)Brown hamburger with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion and drain well.
2)Preheat oven to 400.
3)Return to pan and add soup, butter, sour cream, and water. I love mac and cheese. Heck, I love just about anything with cheese. SO when I saw a recipe to make it in the crock pot and I didn't have to pre-cook anything I was so in. I am happy I tried it because I loved it and so did Chris and Blaze. I do have to say that I thought it was going to be ruined. I put all the stuff in the crock pot and turned it on so it would be ready for supper but when I went back 2 hours later it was cold. I checked and it was not plugged in all the way. What was I to do? I would not waste it so I had to improvise a bit. It is supposed to be cooked on low for 4 hours so what I did was cook it on high for 1 hour and then on low for 2 more hours. It worked but I believe the low for 4 hours would make the edge not as crispy. You can find the original pin here.

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Uc_eeba6YA/UDWb4DUkDQI/AAAAAAAAETo/oyQVN5Iqb8Y/s1600/food+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; He is healthy and strong at 49 inches tall and 58 pounds. He is in the 95th percentile for weight so his doctor said to keep an eye on his eating habits because they say hitting the 95 percent mark is "technically" overweight although he could see Blaze is not fat and he is not a small boy. I think he is about to shoot up again since he is eating a lot right now and he usually does that right before he gets taller again. Man, I can't keep up with this kid. He is definitely a growing boy lol. His eyes, ears, mouth and everything looks great. Dr. Jo did write up an order (AGAIN) for a referral for speech evaluation and therapy. He asked me if he was still in therapy and how he was doing and I told him I never got the referral and called many times and finally just started doing the best I could do. He got mad about that and wrote the orders, gave me a copy and their number and said if I don't hear from them by Wednesday then I should call them or go by and make it happen. At least now I know where it is. He also told me to go by the school central office and get them on the ball about evaluating him too so he can get help at school. I do have to say he has come a long way but still has a long way to go. We will get there one day. Dr. Jo said he can see he is smart and not to worry, he would be fine. He had to get one shot and he has one more and will be all on time till he is 11 so that is good and out of the way now.

(Blaze with his cousin Hunter. This was on meet the teacher day. Hunter started high school this year and he was excited too! I can see so much of them in each other it cracks me up.)

We signed Blaze up for football this season. I thought it was flag but it will actually be tackle football. Lord, help me. I think his size will be an advantage hopefully. It may help him to focus his energy too. I can hope right?? His first practice is tomorrow evening so we shall see what happens. The coach called me tonight and asked about Caleb so I told him he goes by Blaze. He asked if that meant he was fast and I said well, he is fast and he is big too but that is his name. I know what is going to happen probably. I don't like football. It just isn't my thing. SO he will probably love it and be really good at it and I will be stuck with watching football my whole life haha.

Shana Putnamhttps://plus.google.com/103546735125635708047noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3794192923240041837.post-23924938527480805022012-08-16T07:29:00.000-04:002012-08-16T07:29:15.347-04:00What's In The Lunchbox Today? 8-16-12

I am still using up the Lunchables I got on sale so that is what I have been packing.
